Television has made the greatest impact on society since the 70's. Since it is so enjoyable people spend more time watching T.V. than doing other outdoor activities. Television has influenced our culture in many ways including that it is a big part of a lot of teens daily live. Industries that make television shows become rich very quickly. Television has its ups and downs but no matter what it is the greatestimpact on todays society than anything else.

Second current event for trimester 2(new reasons for the downfall of the Mayan empire)

The Mayan empire was remembered for being one of the greatest empires in the renaissance period. The Mayans built gigantic temples/pyramids, had a developed culture, were advanced in the study of astrology, and had a very powerful army so they were very advaned for their time as well. Their are hundreds of theories about the downfall of the Mayan empire including famine, over population and a natural disaster. However a satitellite program called SERVIR which was origanally developed to help combat wildfires, improve land use, and assist with natural disaster responses has found traces of the Mayan's hidden and possible disastorous agricultural past. Recent research adds that another factor may have been climate change and since Mayans maintained a slash and burn agriculture a climate change could have drastically changed their way of farming. The data collected stated that a slash and burn agriculture and the conversion of wetlands may have induced a drought and may have increased the temperature in a local area. Class Response 1 - Chemistry

In science class we are learning about chemistry. In chemistry we learned about matter and how it makes up all physical things. Matter takes up space, and the amount of space matter takes up is called volume. The amount of matter in an object is called mass. Mass is also the reason an object has weight. Weight changes under certain conditions which makes weight not constant. The force of attraction between objects is called gravity. Gravity is one factor that determines an objects weight. The opposite of gravity is interia- the resistance of an object. I did many science experiments in class too.

The experiments I did in science class were very interesting. My favorite experiment was when my group and I put different types of chemicals in a plastic glass to see which liquid would be at the top and which would be at the bottom. The liquid with the highest density would be at the bottom while the liquid with the lowest density would be at the top. In the End the colors of the liquids made a rainbow because of where each liquid floated. My next favorite activity I did was when we learned how to find the volume, density or the mass of an object by using the "Magic Pyramid." The magic pyramid is a formula chart. It tells you how you can find the mass, volume or the density of an object. Overall I think Chemistry is my favorite unit yet.

Chemistry is very fun to learn. It is even more fun than biology. Even though chemistry is not yet over I think the rest of it will be just as fun. Right now my class is researching chemists. Me and my partner are researching a chemist who shared a nobel prize with her husband in radiology. I hope the rest of chemistry is fun!

Science current event ( New reasons found that life may have once existed on Mars)

A Martian meteorite called " Allan Hills 84001" was found on earth in the year 1984. The meteorite was known to contain deposits of organic compounds, a class of molecules that contain carbon and hydrogen. A new analysis of the meteorite suggests that the organic compounds were formed because of volcanic activity early in Mars' history. Cooling carbon dioxide and water very rapidly together along with some iron oxide minerals may have resulted in creating basic organic compounds. Scientists say that a similar reaction occured on Earth one million years ago in Svalbard, Norway. Comparisons of organic material in rocks from Svalbard with that in the Martian meteorite suggest the same process that formed the organic matter happened in Svalbard and on Mars. Some scientists also say that the organic compounds were not "Homegrown", meaning the organic material may not have come from Mars. It may have been delivered to Mars by asteroids and other meteorites from the asteroid belt. Some scientists still remain convinced that the organic compounds came from Martian origin. The organic compounds found on the meteorite could have implications on the search for life on Mars. Scientists hope they will find more organic componds in the soil of Mars on future expiditions to Mars.
